The Geological Society of Japan (JGS)
Introduction
The Geological Society of Japan (JGS) was established in 1893 and has contributed to advancement of science through promoting studies and diffusion of information in the field of geosciences. Activities of the GSJ include the organization of meetings and excursions, scientific and educational publications, and the presentation of prizes.


Profile
GSJ is a scientific organization of over 4600 members including researchers, teachers, and engineering technicians of geology.
The members belong to 7 branches (Hokkaido, Tohoku, Kanto, Chubu, Kinki, Shikoku, Nishinihon).
GSJ has the following 13 specialized groups.

Events
GSJ holds an annual meeting including several symposiums and over 600 papers.
Each branch also holds regional meetings and other events.
